چکیده
Pressure differences across topography generate a form drag that opposes the flow in the water column, and viscous and pressure forces acting on roughness elements of the topographic surface generate a frictional drag on the bottom. Form drag and bottom roughness lengths were estimated over the East Flower Garden Bank (EFGB) in the Gulf of Mexico by combining an array of bottom pressure measurements and profiles of velocity and turbulent kinetic dissipation rates. The EFGB is a coral bank about 6 km wide and 10 km long located at the shelf edge that rises from 100-m water depth to about 18m below the sea surface. The average frictional drag coefficient over the entire bank was estimated as 0.006 using roughness lengths that ranged from 0.001 cm for relatively smooth portions of the bank to 1–10 cm for very rough portions over the corals. The measured form drag over the bank showed multiple time-scale variability. Diurnal tides and lowfrequency motions with periods ranging from 4 to 17 days generated form drags of about 2000Nm with average drag coefficients ranging between 0.03 and 0.22, which are a factor of 5–35 times larger than the average frictional drag coefficient. Both linear wave and quadratic drag laws have similarities with the observed form drag. The form drag is an important flow retardationmechanism even in the presence of the large frictional drag associated with coral reefs and requires parameterization.

C60-terminated self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) were generated on the surface of Au(111) by the adsorption of unsymmetrical disul®des having saturated hydrocarbon backbone structures comprised of six (C-6) and eleven (C-11) carbon atoms. The formation of oriented monolayer ®lms from these adsorbates was con®rmed by ellipsometric thickness and contact angle measurements. The morphologies and fri...

The nonlinear system becomes an area with numerous investigations over the past decades. The conventional modal analysis could not be applied on nonlinear continuous system which makes it impossible to construct the reduced order models and obtain system response based on limited number of measurement points. Nonlinear normal modes provide a useful tool for extending modal analysis to nonlinea...

This article introduces a general framework of multi-granulation fuzzy probabilistic roughsets (MG-FPRSs) models in multi-granulation fuzzy probabilistic approximation space over twouniverses. Four types of MG-FPRSs are established, by the four different conditional probabilitiesof fuzzy event. For different constraints on parameters, we obtain four kinds of each type MG-FPRSs...
متن کاملEstimation of Hydrodynamic Force on Rough Circular Cylinders in Random Waves and Currents (RESEARCH NOTE)
Most of the Codes of Practice (API, BSI, DnV, NPD) uses Morison's equation to estimate hydrodynamic loads on fixed and moving offshore structures. The significant difference in the prediction of the loads mainly arises from the assumption of the values of hydrodynamic coefficients. In this paper by analysing a full scale set of data in large KC's numbers collected from Delta Wave Flume in the N...
متن کاملLandforms identification using neural network-self organizing map and SRTM data
During an 11 days mission in February 2000 the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) collected data over 80% of the Earth's land surface, for all areas between 60 degrees N and 56 degrees S latitude. Since SRTM data became available, many studies utilized them for application in topography and morphometric landscape analysis. Exploiting SRTM data for recognition and extraction of topographic ...
